In 2005, the subway of network of Bangkok is not only serving the city itself but also its suburbs. While the crew from the Subway tried to extract a new tunnel, they suddenly discover a monster which had been slep under that tunnel for tounsands of years.

When the monster wakes up, it started its attack to human beings. Despite the use of the military force, they cannot stop the monster but makes it more angry. When the monsters goes out of the underground, they city was fallen into chaos.

Over the course of many years, the manipulation of people??s natural fear of the unknown has been honed to near perfection, arguably reaching its?? peak in 1938 when Orson Wells?? radio broadcast of War of the Worlds caused mass panic and near anarchy.

Stephen King and his peers write good books and all, but my favorite form of fright-punishment has always been the monster movie. From aliens with ray guns to 80-foot ants to long-dead resurrected humans, the endless and wonderfully adaptable array of baddies used to frighten us has been astounding. Nearly every country in the world has movies that revolve around a local legend, be it zombies, bigfoot, goblins or the like, and this month Thailand weighs in with the ??Paksa Wayu?? or Garuda.

It??s here that understanding the importance of the Garuda to Thais really helps with the logic of the film. To foreigners it??s just a dinosaur skeleton, but to Thais it??s a mythical, god-like creature that their ancestors revered and made offerings to, as well as a contemporary symbol of power and honor. This helps explain why the army would send in a special team to protect a bunch of bones; the find is comparable to finding King Arthur??s grave in the Western world.

Directing a monster movie brings with it some baggage: they??ve been done so many times that the average moviegoer is now very savvy about what to expect; they??ve seen nearly every surprise reveal, jump-shot and camera angle there is. Director Monthon Arayangkoon does an admirable job despite this and knows how to stage his action scenes well. Granted, standard point-of-view shots and special effects cheats are interspersed throughout, but some very cool sequences would be right at home in a Hollywood blockbuster.

Also of note: this is the first Thai film to be shot completely digitally, quite a remarkable step considering that the first movie in history to do that only came out in 1999 (Star Wars: Episode I).
