In this sprawling drama set in early 20th century China the Tsang family wants to prepare an arranged marriage for their terminally ill eldest son as a way to eliminate the gloominess. But a series of events led to all three sons marrying someson that they do not love.
Both generations of the Tsang family struggle to cope with the consequences of their actions until the Japanese invasion of China change everything. MOMENT IN PEKING is a fascinating look at the ups and downs of a traditional Chinese family in turbulent times.
Zhao Wei's first series after a four year break from television, Moment in Peking is a drama based on a book of the same title written bu Lin Yu Tang. Based on the dramas of a family in the changing times of the early 1900s in China, Zhao plays the role of a refined, yet curious and adventurous girl, Mu Lan, who travels through life in a loving idealistic manner that often finds herself being the receiver of hatred and tragedy despite her absolute belief of the good in others.
This was ceratinly a break-through for Zhao Wei in terms of television characters, as perviously, her characters were always dramatic and feisty, and Mu Lan is almost an opposite, passive, and doing her best to maintain the peace no matter how difficult this becomes for her.
CCTV's heavyweight TV series last year, "Moment in Peking,"starring China's most popular actress Vicky Zhao, beat the 30-episode TV drama "Bright Sword" to win the Best Rating Award.
