King Of Beggars (1992)

Director: Gordon Chan
Cast: Stephen Chow, Cheung Man, Ng Man Tat, Chui Keung, Lam Wai, Chan Wei Yee

Synopsis

Beggar So (Stephen Chow) was born a Manchu nobleman. He was caught cheating at the martial arts competition and was stripped of his title and wealth and became a beggar. He saved the life of a senior member of the Beggar's Gang and became their Leader.

Later he foiled an assassination attempt on the Emperor by defeating the leader of the Tian Li Cult (Tsui Siu Keung). The Emperor wanted to reinstate So's former title but he declined. Instead, he was awarded a golden bowl with the inscription, "Alms-begging on the Emperor's order".

Stephen Chow Sing-Chi brings his unique manic mirth-making to the legendary Chinese folk hero Beggar So. In this madcap reworking of a classic tale, So is the illiterate son of a wealthy family. He enters a Chinese military arts tournament, but is disgraced when his lack of academic skills is revealed. Forced to walk the streets as a vagabond, So eventually joins the famed Society of Beggars, rising through the ranks to become their king. When the Emperor's life is endangered, So and his ragged army come to the rescue.

Synopsis

Chow Siu Lung (Stephen Chow) is the only son of kung-fu instructor Chow Fei Hung (Yuen Wah) from Tai O. Hung wanted Lung to make a living in the city so he asked Yan (Leung Ka Yan) accompany Lung. Yan discovered that Lung is a natural snooker player and used him to make profits from illegal bets. Later he even swindled Lung's title deed of his ancestral home. When all seem lost, Lung's childhood sweetheart Mo Mo (Teresa Mo) used another piece of land as the stake and demanded a re-match...

Hong Kong's funny man Stephen Chiao stars in this hilarious romp directed by Danny Lee as a peasant son of a kung fu master from a fighting island village who happens to be an ace pool player. He must travel to Hong Kong to defeat world snooker champion Jimmy White to save his family's land from the island's evil landlord.

Hung is a kung fu coach on Lautau Island. His son Lung and his fellow schoolmate, Mao, are considered a couple. One time, Hung's fellow Yan goes to Lautau for help.
