Co-directed by Nakahara Shun and Takahashi Tsutomu with a script by Sakura no Sono (Cherry Orchard) stars Miyazawa Miho and Kajiwara Aki, Ichigo no Kakera is a unique story about lost love and how holding on to the past can dramatically effect how a person deals with life in the present day. The film depicts the relationship between two friends, Nekoda Ichigo (Kajiwara Aki), a self-centered manga artist with a severe case of writer's block, and her longtime manager, Tomoko (Miyazawa Miho), a single mother who longs for her client to someday repeat the success of her last great work, Cherry Road, a popular girls' comic published more than a decade earlier.

This once-heralded manga ended with an iconic scene, which implied that the book's motorcycle-driving hero had died, a fact that will later be revealed to have even greater significance for the film's protagonists. Such a scene and the comic itself inspired a myriad of admirers, but while there are still Cherry Road fans coming up to Ichigo on occasion, the numbers seem to be steadily declining as the years wear on.Having to live up to past successes would get to just about anyone, and after an encounter in which she receives some well-intentioned encouragement, Ichigo decides to vent her frustrations to the denizens of a local transvestite bar. But as Ichigo heads home, things take a strange turn when she narrowly escapes certain death by a speeding vehicle.

Suddenly, she finds herself inside a beach house occupied by her one true love (played by Oshio Manabu), a man whose life was cut short by a tragic motorcycle accident, an event which inspired her manga hero and his tragic fate in the final issue. But just as quickly as she was transported to this dream world, Ichigo soon finds herself back in reality, laid up in a hospital bed. This bizarre experience motivates Ichigo to craft a new manga tale, but will it be as successful as Cherry Road? And what secrets does Tomoko hold that might shed light on both their past and present situations?

Find out in Ichigo No Kakera, an engaging cinematic experience that explores the inspiring, sometimes devastating power of love.
