Film icon Klaus Kinski stars as both an insane killer and innocent victim in this startling shocker, complete with cruel asylum tortures and creepy doings in an old dark castle which harbords a prowling, hooded maniac. Based on a novel by internationally renowned mystery writer Edgar Wallace, this gothic chiller was originally produced as "The Blue Hand" and released to U.S. theaters as "Creature with the Blue Hand" (74 min.). This special double feature DVD combines the original version with its enhanced home video release, "The Bloody Dead" (80 min.), produced by Independent-International Pictures Corp. Additional blood and gore scenes were added by uncredited director-writer Sam Sherman, who secured the services of make up/special effects artist Ed French to design special appliances and bloody effects. French also appears as the main lunatic in the aslyum opening, while Australian actress Denise Coward portrays a captured nurse. The expanded murder sequences also make skillful use of the original's unnerving knife-finger killings, devised years before Freddy Krueger.
